The Board of Directorís Welcome

We hope you will find our new website format interesting and easy to navigate. The redesign is intended to showcase our new mission and programs and provide easy access to our new comprehensive set of services and resources for middle, high school, college students, adult learners, parents, donors, partners, media, and alumni seeking career opportunities and a pathway to the Hospitality Industry.
The Black Hospitality Initiative continues to work aggressively toward its mission to advance economic participation and open doors of opportunity for African Americans and Blacks of African descent in the Greater Miami Visitor Industry.  We believe 2010 and 2011 are critical periods to our rebranding which will lay the foundation to continue our model of excellence in hospitality education and service.
Now in our 19-year history, the Black Hospitality Initiative has provided more than 200 scholarships and 2.5 million job placement and in-kind services. Our outreach programs have reached hundreds of families, providing them with information they need to help their children access college and financial aid to pay for a higher education. Our programs also support students already in college, and our Black Hospitality Initiative Talent Development and Job Connection Programs offer employment opportunities and mentoring for students and Alumni.

From our prospective nothing is more profound than the success stories from our students and successful alumni who have achieved their educational goals and found their place in the Hospitality Industry often against incredible odds. A recent survey conducted by our staff, showed that 80 percent of Black Hospitality Initiative undergraduate scholars graduate within five-and-a-half years, a rate nearly 30 percent higher than the national average for all races and ethnicities.

Lastly, we’re always looking to improve our program and efforts.  If there are aspects of our new web presentation that you think could be more helpful or easier to use, please send your comments and suggestions to gswilley@gmcvb.com

Thanks again for visiting us.

Sincerely,
Carole Ann Taylor
